New Dimension in Open MRI and Patient Comfort

Wetzel County Hospital Offers Siemens 1.5T MAGNETOM Espree

One of the first small rural hospitals in WV, Wetzel County Hospital is offering the Open
Bore, 1.5 Tesla, magnetic resonance imaging (Open MRI) system.  This MRI system
combines a larger bore, or opening, for obese and claustrophobic patients with the ability
to capture high-field quality diagnostic images.

"This is going to increase our efficiency and patient convenience," says Pam Deel, WCH
Radiology Director.  "The patient-friendly design of this magnet will make it easier for large
patients and those with claustrophobia to have a MRI examination which produces higher
quality images.  This will potentially reduce the need to repeat and interrupt exams."

The Siemens Medical Solutions MAGNETOM Espree features a bore opening of nearly 2.3
feet in diameter and almost one foot of free space between patient's head and the
magnet.  The Espree also features the shortest 1.5 Tesla magnet available.
Approximately 4 feet long, the magnet allows more than 60% of exams to be completed
with the patient's head outside the bore, helping to ease claustrophobia.

The new Emergency Department has been expanded from 1,750 square feet to 6,300

accommodate trauma, cardiac, gynecology, orthopedic/suture, or isolation patients.

The M.R.I. trailer area has also been relocated and now includes open M.R.I. service.

Air Evac Lifeteam opens in Wetzel County

Air Evac Lifeteam, an independently-owened air ambulance provider, has expanded it's
service area in northern West Virginia with the opening of a base in Wetzel County.  The
base is housed on the grounds of the Wetzel County Hospital.

"We are very excited to be in Wetzel County and feel there is a need for our services in this
area," said Air Evac Lifeteam's Bradley Troy, Program Director for the Wetzel County base.
"There are some great hospitals and EMS providers in this region, and we look forward to
partnering with them and being an extension of that excellent health care service.  Our goal
is simple:  To make sure area residents have access to the definitive care they need in the
event of a medical emergency."

Wetzel County Hospital CEO George Couch said the presence of Air Evac Lifeteam will be
another asset to the community.  "Emergency care in Wetzel, Tyler, and Monroe Counties
will be greatly enhanced with the addition of a full-time emergency helicopter service."
Couch continued, "we have taken great strides as a small rural hospital in providing
high-quality emergency, inpatient and outpatient services.  The addition of an emergency
helicopter service is just one more way to provide timely, quality service for our patients."

Sistersville General Hospital CEO Brian Lowther echoed sentiments.  "We are pleased
that Air Evac Lifeteam has chosen to set up a base so close to Sistersville General
Hospital.  Our experience in the past has been ideal with Air Evac Lifeteam, and we look
forward to the future support and care they will provide our patients.  Air Evac's service to
the community will provide a sense of security, knowing that quality air transport is
available within ten minutes."
